Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit

blasphemyBlasphemy of the Holy Spirit is rejecting His offer of salvation to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as one’s Savior. If a person rejects Jesus Christ as Savior when the Holy Spirit opens his eyes to his need of a Savior, then that person Continue reading

Rejected

There is one overriding reason for the troubles we are having in America today. The reason for our financial woes, unemployment, teen pregnancy, abortion, STDs, lack of morals, lack of common sense, lying, over reliance on government, and a host of other problems is that we have officially, by government decree, Continue reading

Are Christmas Trees Pagan?

When studying the Bible, one should never take one or a few verses out of context and make a doctrinal point out of the particular verse or verses. If not understood in the context of the issue and surrounding passages, we often obtain a false reading of the particular scripture. Jeremiah 10:3-4 is a passage often taken out of context Continue reading

Soldiers © CC-Art.com

Paul tells us that our fight in this life is not against other people, but against Satan and his minions. Even though we may face persecution from our human enemies, it is the spirits of wickedness that actually oppose us and incite our enemies against us. This is the source of all the strife we suffer in this world. Hence we are to put on and keep on the armor of God.

Giants

Were there really giants in Canaan? Was Goliath really a giant?

Good questions. What is a giant? Is it that fairy tale giant that lived at the top of a giant beanstalk that is twenty times bigger than normal people? Continue reading

Does the Virgin Birth Really Matter?

Annunciation ©CC-Art.com

If faith in Jesus Christ and his death and resurrection are the determining belief required for salvation (John 3:16, Eph 2:8, 1 Cor 15:3-4) what difference does the Virgin Birth make? If we are saved by our faith in Christ, is the Virgin Birth simply a matter of doctrine over which Christians may disagree without sacrificing the essence of Christianity? These are good questions deserving a Biblical answer. Continue reading

Is Jesus the Only Way to Heaven?

"One Way" image loading.

One Way

The answer to this question often is and has often been the factor that breeds enmity toward Christians. After all, goes the thinking, how could Christians be so narrow minded and exclusive? Yet, the direct answer is yes, Jesus is the only way into heaven. There is no other way.  This is what Scripture tells us. Continue reading

The Easy Burden and Light Yoke of Jesus

Note: This is a sermon I preached a while back. Upon hearing this sermon, several people believed and were baptized. —Brother Mark

Matthew 11:21-30:
Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. Continue reading

The Lord’s Prayer

Luke 11:1 And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.

Luke tells us that the disciples came to Jesus and asked him to teach them to pray as John did his disciples. That occurred after Jesus raised Lazarus at Bethany. Jesus had gone off to a “certain place” to pray. It may have been a private place or it may have just been a quiet place out of the way. Therefore, Continue reading

Plain Talk From the Pastor

This is a letter I wrote to members of the community around a church I pastored. It is specific to a particular church but could be used by anyone at any church. I place it here for anyone thinking about beginning church attendance. Feel free to use this letter and tailor it to your own church or ministry—Pastor Mark Oaks. Continue reading

Will Jesus Return at Any Moment?

It always amazes me that Bible believing Christians, who are almost 100% doctrinally correct, have a blind spot when it comes to the passage of scripture below. I was reading some material published by a well-known church that has a worldwide television outreach, and written by a well-known professor and Doctor of Divinity. The material was talking about the apostasy spoken of in verse three in the passage below. The article was sure that the end time apostasy was happening now, and I agree Continue reading

Memra (The Word)

In his Gospel, the Apostle John tells us that, in the beginning, the Word was with God and the Word was God. Christians understand that John was speaking about Jesus. A new convert may be taught that this is correct, but would he understand why? Do you understand why the Word is Christ? Continue reading

Lucifer

Isa 14:4 That thou shalt take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say, How hath the oppressor ceased! the golden city ceased!

Isa 14:12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

The word, ‘proverb’, is rendered from the Hebrew root word, משׁל, mashal (the actual word used here is המשׁל, hamashal, “this proverb”). משׁל can be rendered parable, by-word, lamentation, allegory, taunt, similitude, etc. It is also rendered ‘let’ and ‘rule’. Continue reading

Who Am I to Judge?

There is a sentiment in America today on which many of our problems rest. It is judgmentalism, or, rather the lack of it. And very and many people, especially Christians, both active and inactive, use the following verse to justify it: Continue reading

A Chunky Revelation

The Book of Revelation Broken Into Large Chunks
To Enhance Our Understanding

The Book of Revelation is a very difficult book to understand. It details important events throughout history and at the very end of the age. If we break in down into great sections or “chunks”, we can more readily comprehend what is happening. Although all the details cannot be learned this way, the major emphases Continue reading

Filthy Rags

and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags —Isaiah 64:6

What did Isaiah mean when he wrote this passage? We must, of course, use the Bible as our text and as our guide to understanding the passage. We will first examine the Hebrew words underlying this passage.
